Does my child need experience?
No, all skill levels welcome.
What lacrosse gear is needed?
All girls will need to have a girls lacrosse stick, lacrosse face goggles, and a colored mouth guard. Girls cannot play with a boy's lacrosse stick so please make sure you have the right stick. Mouth guards can be any color except white. Take a look at our equipment page and talk with your coach (or email us) if you have any additional questions!
What if we can’t make all the practices or games?
We encourage girls to come to as many practices and games as possible as this is the best way for them to develop their skills. We also know that your lives are busy and you may have other obligations from time to time.
Are there tryouts? No tryouts. Our teams are open to everyone that would like to try out the sport for the first time or to an existing player! All you have to do is register.
Can I Volunteer with NOFU?
Absolutely—we love and appreciate our volunteers who make our sports program possible both on the field as coaches and off the field behind the scenes. Your time, energy, and dedication help create a positive and successful experience for every athlete at NOFU! Please email us if you are interested.
What is a USA lacrosse membership and do I need one?
Yes, you will need to become a USA lacrosse member as this is a requirement for both NOFU and the City of Johns Creek / Newtown Park. A USA Lacrosse membership helps protect our players and strengthens our program by providing insurnace, safty resources, and trained coaches, and connection to the national lacrosse community. This is a $35 yearly fee.
Do you require background checks for your coaches?
Yes! All of our coaches must have a background check through both the City of Johns Creek / Newtown Park and through USA Lacrosse. They also go through a USA Lacrosse training program as well.
How do you find coaches?
Our coaches come from parents just like you - some have played lacrosse in the past, while others simply want to contribute to their daughter's team and support the growth of the game. We are also fortunate to have coaches from our local community, including former women's lacrosse players who bring their experience, passion, and love for the sport to our athletes.
When and where are practices?
We practice at the main lacrosse field at Newton Park on Mondays and Wednesday. Our K-2 and 3/4 teams typically practice from 5:30 – 7:00 PM and the 5/6 and 7/8 teams will practice from 6:30 – 8:00 PM.
When and where are games?
Games are typically played on the weekends during the fall months of September and October and the spring months of March and April. Our home field is at Newtown Park and away games are within the local area like Milton, Roswell, Cumming, and Suwanee.
What is the season start and end dates?
The fall season is August through October, and our spring season is February through April.
Is there a boys lacrosse team?

Can my daughter use her brother’s stick?
Girl and boy lacrosse sticks are quite different. A boy stick will have a deeper pocket than a girls and referees may do a stick check specifically for the pocket depth before games, due to this your daughter will need a stick specifically for girls.
Do we need to purchase uniforms each season?
No, if you already have a uniform that fits you do not need to repurchase another uniform. You will have the option to purchase a uniform during registration when your daughter needs a new size.
Can we request a specific uniform number?
No, all our uniforms are preordered based on the previous season’s number availability and numbers will be provided based on the current inventory in your daughter’s uniform size.
What is your weather policy?
Practices and games will continue in light rain as long as conditions remain safe. If weather conditions worsen or lightening is detected in the area, activities will be delayed or canceled. Any schedule changes will be communicated promptly through TeamSnap.
What is the jewelry policy?
No jewelry is allowed during practice and games for safety reasons. If your daughter has recently pierced ears, you can place Band-Aids over the earrings.
How are the teams divided?
Teams are divided by age groups as detailed by USA Lacrosse:
- K-2: Kindergarten - 2nd grade
- 3/4: 3rd and 4th grade
- 5/6: 5th and 6th grade
- 7/8: 7th and 8th grade
