Lacrosse Equipment
Your daughter will need three essential pieces of equipment:
lacrosse goggles
(or a girls lacrosse helmet), a
girl's/women's lacrosse stick, and a
mouth guard (any color except white). All of these items can be purchased online through Amazon or found locally at DICK’S Sporting Goods or Lacrosse Unlimited.
Lacrosse Sticks
Choosing your daughter’s first lacrosse stick can feel overwhelming. With so many options and varying price points, it’s easy to wonder what really matters. The good news is that for most new players, finding the correct length, a comfortable grip, and a stick designed for her age and level are much more important than buying the most expensive model.
Why Stick Length Matters
A properly sized stick helps players:
- Learn correct passing and catching mechanics
- Develop better ball control and cradling
- Shoot more accurately
- Play confidently without fighting the equipment
A stick that’s too long can be difficult for younger players to control, while one that’s too short can limit reach and defensive play as players grow.
To perform a simple fit test for your daughters' stick, check the armpit-to-shaft length. Legal sticks measure 35.5 to 43.25 inches from the top of the head to the end of the shaft. Take a look at this video for more information or reach out to one of our coaches!

EXAMPLE LACROSSE EQUIPMENT
The equipment featured below are just a few examples of quality beginner, intermediate, and advanced options. Many trusted manufacturers - including STX, Gait, StringKing, and Maverik - offer excellent sticks designed to help players develop their skills at every stage of their development.
This example is good for all age groups. Youth sizes are also available and suitable for most K-2 players.
Although not required, some girls gravitate towards helmets and gain confidence from the extra protection they afford. It is not uncommon for younger players in particular to be afraid of the ball and that fear can interfere with learning how to catch. Even older girls may appreciate the extra protection.
The mouth guard should fit the teeth snuggly, remain in place during play, and interfere with speech as little as possible. Our girls need to be able to communicate on the field. Several styles are available and this light weight and moldable option is popular. Bright colors that a referee can easily see are ideal.
This stick is suitable for K-2 girls, but not older girls due to the stick's short length. If in doubt purchase the "Beginner Lacrosse Stick" since the stick itself can always be trimmed to the desired length.
This basic stick works well for 3/4 girls and those new to the sport.
This stick's design incorporates features that assist more experienced players at a lower cost point than high end sticks.
This is an example of an elite stick. Both STX and Gait are well known and reliable brands that feature the latest game enhancing technologies.
